Irlen Syndrome Screenings
Are you or your child experiencing reading challenges? Do you feel tired after reading for a short time? Are you sensitive to light? Do you have difficulty driving at night? Do you suffer from headaches or migraines? Do you experience ADD symptoms? Do you tend to trip a lot or stub your toes repeatedly or even bump into things often? Learning if you or your child has Irlen Syndrome can be absolutely life changing!
Irlen syndrome is a perceptual processing disorder. It is not a problem with the eyes. It is a problem with the brain’s ability to process visual information. It typically runs in families and is not currently recognized by mainstream health professionals, although as more people are getting diagnosed and finding relief from symptoms and learning issues, Irlen is becoming better recognized.
Irlen can manifest itself differently for each individual. We learned about it when my daughter was 8 years old and dealing with daily headaches that were worsening over time. For myself, it was years and years of struggling to learn to read. I was not aware that the text was moving around and therefor making it very difficult for me to read. Comprehension was difficult, I was frustrated, and reading was completely unenjoyable. We both have been wearing our filters for one year and our brains have calmed down so much. Within a week of wearing her glasses, my daughter's headaches went away and I am able to read for long periods of time, comprehend what I am reading, and actually enjoy it for the first time in my life! I was so happy with our results that I became a screener myself.
Here are the signs that you may be dealing with Irlen Syndrome:
Headaches and Migraines
Attention and Concentration Problems
Strain and Fatigue
Problems with Depth Perception
Print or Environmental Distortion
Learning that you may have Irlen Syndrome and taking action, by using overlays or wearing Irlen Spectral Filters results in improved reading, learning, performance, attention, and well being. As an Irlen Screener I am certified to administer the first testing session and determine whether an individual will benefit from further evaluation for Irlen Spectral Filters.
